The castle of Blanquefort-sur-Briolance is located in the town of the same name, in the department of Lot-et-Garonne, 14 km south-east of Monpazier.
The building which is located on a spur dominating the village which developed at its feet is mentioned as early as the 13th century. Seat of a seigniory confiscated for a time by the Count of Toulouse, it then consisted of a dungeon belonging to the Pujols family, one of whose descendants would be seneschal of Quercy, and a tower owned by the lords of Fumel.
In the 15th century, the whole area was taken over by the Roquefeuils, descendants of the Pujols who returned to the region after moving away to the Rouergue. However, in 1477, Béranger de Roquefeuil soon decided to settle in Bonaguil. However, he had time to restore the gatehouse and to fit out buildings to the south: these have now disappeared, with the exception of a tower.
In the 17th century, the north wing was built in a more residential style.
In the 19th century, the castle acquired by the municipality was transformed into a school and a town hall. In the 1960s, it was sold and several owners succeeded one another, including the Compagnons du Devoir.
Listed in the Inventory, the estate has been partially restored. The castle is occasionally open to visitors in summer. It can also punctuate a walk in this town of character on the borders of Périgord and Agenais.
