Today classified as an historic monument, the synagogue of Besançon, in the Doubs, was erected in the second half of the 19th century. Main place of Jewish worship in the city, it takes place on the remains of a first building that had become too narrow to accommodate all the faithful.
Neo-Moorish in style, it is inspired by the Mosque of Cordoba and the Alhambra of Granada in its architecture. Considered to be one of the most original buildings in the city of Besançon, it presents in particular minarets, a sculpture of the Tables of the Law, a holy arch or even magnificent stained glass windows.
