At the heart of the Southern Alps, wedged between the High Alps and Haute Provence, Bellaffaire is a small rural town, mainly agricultural and forestry, which stretches between 765 m and 1,598 m above sea level.
The village unfolds around a hill dominated by the Saint-Nicolas church, offering a beautiful view of the valleys and surrounding peaks. Its ten hamlets are scattered in a preserved site of wooded hills and green meadows where cattle breeding dominates.
The municipality, which covers 13.1 km², has about 150 inhabitants. It offers a scattered habitat with two main hamlets: the Village and Freyssinia, centered on two beautiful churches.
Included in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, Bellafaire is located 30 km from Gap, 40 km from Sisteron, 30 km from Seyne les Alpes. Its bordering communes are: Turriers (4 km in the south), Gigors (2 km in the west), and Bréziers (3 km in the northeast).
Because of its geographical position, the town has a specific biodiversity. Last municipality in the north-east of the Motte Valley of Cairo, bordering with the Hautes-Alpes, it benefits from the natural, cultural and tourist attractions of both departments. Thus, Provence and Montagne rub shoulders on this territory: broom and lavender flirt with edelweiss and columbine of the Alps, green oak with larch, boar with chamois, Provencal tiles with steel tray.
Wedged between the Provence of Giono and the High mountains of Ubaye or Gapençais, identifying by its prefecture to the dignified landscapes of Magnan, taking advantage of the attractions of the sites valued by the via ferrata of Cairo, the dam of Serre-Ponçon, the Trois Lacs de Rochebrune, the proximity of the prestigious valleys of the Hautes Alpes (Ecrins, Champsaur, Embrunais, Ubaye), the municipality of Bellaffaire attracts many tourists and residents in search of pure and authentic landscapes.
