Holy Cross Brotherhood is the oldest in the city, it already existed in the early 15th century and has been classified a historical monument in 1931.
Rococo style unfolds with grace and exuberance. The Chapel of the Crucifix of Miracles is particularly noteworthy with its coffered painted Renaissance and black christ placed in the niche. This miraculous deemed christ, was found in 1428 by two Bastia fishers off the city. Returned to the old port and "watched" during the night by pious women, it was found the morning hanging from the branches of a tree at the precise location where the chapel was built.
It should also be noted that this chapel was built on land owned by the Holy See. In a few steps, the visitor is so ... in Vatican earth.
The Brotherhood of the Holy Cross was once occupied by the hospital of foundlings who communicated directly with the chapel of the Black Christ. The typical Baroque processional group represents the Annunciation. A much older Annunciation (mannered style of the medieval period) adorns two niches to the middle of the nave.
