Tourism, holidays & weekends guide in the Oise

Village of Oise, in Hauts-de-France region, Baron takes place seventy kilometers from Beauvais and its cathedral, not far from Ermenonville, Montépilloy and Barbery.

Populated since the Gallo-Roman era, the town of Baron then benefited from the influence of the large neighboring city, Augustomagus (Senlis). Fortified in the Middle Ages, it was for a long time a Mecca of cereal cultivation, then breeding and viticulture. She knows her golden age under the Restoration, including the presence of many artisans.

Strongly marked by the two world wars, the village of Baron has however retained its appearance of the past, including some beautiful architectural vestiges testifying to its rich past.

Things to see and do

Listed as a historic monument, the church of St. Peter and St. Paul dates from the late fifteenth century. In a flamboyant Gothic style, it has a stone spire forty-five meters from the fifteenth century. In its interior, it is possible to admire beautiful woodwork from the 18th century from the Chaalis Abbey. These are classified as Historical Monuments as the altarpiece of the high altar carved partially gilded wood, the Virgin and Child in polychrome limestone, the statue of St. Peter, baptismal font or different paintings to admire.

The manor of Beaulieu-le-Vieux presents a tithe barn now listed as an historic monument. The first building unveils a dining room and an alcove room of the sixteenth century.

While strolling in the small streets, do not miss to appreciate the traditional farms or the two remaining towers of the old enclosure.

To enjoy the surrounding landscapes, go to the Montlognon woods for horse riding or walking.
