Castle of Banne

Monument in Banne

Castle Banne on the eponymous resort, in Ardeche, 30 km north of Ales is now in ruins.

It was first erected a castrum on a rocky outcrop and a castle that belonged successively to the powerful families of Chateauneuf and Joyeuse. Then a strong place among the most powerful in the region...

In the fifteenth century, it becomes the property of Beauvoir du Roure that transform the medieval building more comfortable Renaissance castle.

Preserved in 1789, the building was destroyed in 1792 during disturbances against revolutionaries and it is even a time turned into careers. Today there remain only the walls of elements and especially the magnificent stables to the vast dimensions (54 m long).

The site is accessible via a path leading to a platform overlooking the plain, and a viewpoint has moreover been installed there.
