Commune of nearly 6000 inhabitants, in Guadeloupe, Baillif takes place just a few kilometers from Basse-Terre, on the banks of the Plessis river. Mainly known for its agricultural activity, in particular with the cultivation of sugar cane and bananas, it also has among the oldest traces of Amerindian settlement.
Of very ancient origin, the commune of Baillif remains famous today for hosting one of the main distilleries on the island still in operation, the famous Bologna distillery founded in the course of the 17th century. Inhabited since that time by a colony of Dominican fathers, it has since then quietly developed, revealing an interesting architectural heritage that attracts many visitors every year.
