Ayzac-Ost

A Romanesque building remodeled in the 17th and 18th centuries, the Saint-André d'Ayzac church is worth a detour. With a single nave with two side chapels, it ends in a semi-circular chevet and has a very beautiful bell tower-porch surmounted by a four-sloped slate roof. Inside, visitors can admire an elegant altarpiece from the end of the 17th century.

Also Romanesque in style, the Sainte-Lucie d'Ost church dates back to medieval times. Entirely rebuilt in the 19th century, it has since had a bell tower with four sides of walls.

While strolling through the town, you will also be sure to admire the Sainte-Marie-Madeleine chapel in Ayzac-Ost or the old covered washhouse.

But it is mainly for its landscapes that Ayzac-Ost is visited. The village hosts a Natura 2000 classified area as well as several ZNIEFF classified areas like the Gave d'Azun, the Hautacam massif or the crests of the Granquet, Estibète and Pibeste massifs. Several marked hiking trails allow you to appreciate all its charms.

Children and adults will also enjoy taking a trip to the Pyrenees animal park, ranked among the three most beautiful parks and zoos in France. On nearly fifteen hectares, it is possible to discover a hundred animal species including marmots, gray wolves, red pandas, meerkats, brown bears or songbirds of the humid forests.
