Charming little circular village of the department of Herault, in the heart of the Regional Natural Park of High Languedoc, Avène takes place in a meander of the valley of the Orb, eighty kilometers from Montpellier. Popular spa resort, it is located on the edge of the Aveyron, near Melagues, Montagnol and Lunas.

Nestled in the country of Monts and Sources, at the foot of the Cevennes, Avène is 350 meters above sea level and has long been known for its mining, until the mid-1950s. Today, the city is turned towards hydrotherapy, activity whose origins go back to the Gallo-Roman era. The bicarbonate, calcium and magnesian waters of the village are famous for their healing properties against atopic dermatitis, eczema, pruritic psoriasis, urticaria, ichthyosis, burns and circulatory disorders. The resort is now entirely focused on dermatological problems.

Avène also attracts visitors with its architectural heritage that bears witness to a rich and ancient history.
