In old provencal, Aura refers to the wind and air. This name is probably the slight breeze which prevails almost continuously on the board. For centuries, the plateau Auron was an area of cultivation and grazing for the inhabitants of Saint-Etienne-de-Tinée. In the early 20th century, the only "foreigners" to come there were soldiers on maneuvers and a few skiers. It was not until 1931, for a wagon trail connects Saint-Etienne to Auron. At that time, two major stations began to be equipped with cable: Megeve, France and in Sestriere, Italy. This example inspired the Conseil Général des Alpes-Maritimes who decided to finance equipment Beuil-Valberg and Auron. In 1934, Auron received his first ski race.

His first cable (the third in France) was inaugurated January 30, 1937. It was carrying 25 people at the extraordinary speed of 2 meters per second! In 1938, Auron greeted the 27th Championships of France, but the war began so the station can sleep it woke quite thirty years later. Its customers had tripled since 1960, but its equipment had not kept pace.

In 1971, the launch of the resort of Isola 2000, near, led the revival of Auron. And this revival was so dramatic and effective since 1979, the station has hosted three times the championships of France Alpine skiing, men and women. Today the station Auron offers 135 km of track.
