Located in the Town Hall of Auch, this 18th century Italian theater is the only theater from this period preserved in the South West.
The initiative came from the intendant Antoine Mégret d'Etigny (1719-1767) who proposed the construction of a new town hall. From the outset, the building was designed to house a theatre.
The room has an elongated U-shape, the branches of which deviate in a slight curve to reach the proscenium. The foliage panels of the first boxes have in their center medallions representing playwrights (Voltaire, Shakespeare, Molière, Sophocles, etc.).
The ceiling represents Poetry, Eloquence, Music and Painting.
The theater is still today a place of performance for artists and companies, particularly within the framework of the cultural season or the Circa festival.
Guided tours are offered with guides from the Pays d'Art et d'Histoire (contact the Grand Auch Cœur de Gascogne Tourist Office for more information).
