Located in the heart of the Hérault, the castle of Assas is a beautiful madness of Montpellier eighteenth century. Listed as a historic monument for part of its body, it is partly the work of the architect Jean-Antoine Giral.
The facade is flanked by two pavilions with cut sides and is dressed in ionic pilasters in colossal order. It was partly built with elements from the nearby castle of the Mosson destroyed shortly before, like the ironwork of the first floor balconies and the large chandelier. Inside, it is possible to admire paintings by Jacques de Lajoüe in the large oval living room. This last room also houses a Baroque positive organ and an 18th century harpsichord. This one was used by Scott Ross, the famous harpsichordist, for many recordings.
Of modest size, the garden however reveals very beautiful boxwood cut of the 18th century, as well as a dovecote registered with the Historical Monuments.
