The Auvergne Animal Park is a zoological reserve for endangered species around the world and it is also the only zoological park in Europe specializing in the fauna of the summits of the world.
On 30 hectares and at an altitude of 750 meters, you follow a course of approximately 4 km which allows you to discover nearly 350 rare and endangered animals of 70 different species: snow leopards, red pandas, wolverines, lions from Africa, tigers, takins, black bears from Tibet, but also Rothschild's giraffes, Hartmann's zebras, and many endangered primates. The Park is located in an exceptional natural site where you can admire many incredible views.
Also take advantage of the spectacular enclosures where you can enter the midst of animals: chamois / ibex, lemurs or sika deer, and numerous walkways allowing you to get as close as possible to animals (red pandas, bears, wolves, giraffes). The Auvergne Animal Park is very involved in the conservation of endangered species throughout the world but also in Auvergne, and participates in more than 46 international breeding programs for endangered species.
In 2018, the Park welcomes two new species!
On February 16, 2021, the Parc Animalier d'Auvergne welcomed Suyiana, 7 years old. It is an Amur panther. This feline is the most endangered in the world. In fact, only about a hundred are left in the world in their natural state. Suyiana is in a brand new enclosure which is the largest in Europe! She will be joined by a male in 2021 to form a breeding pair as part of a European breeding program (EEP). In 2021, the Park will continue to financially support the WildCats Conservation Alliance which, through the Phoenix Fund, works for the protection of Amur panthers and tigers in Russia.
After two years of absence, the Parc Animalier d'Auvergne is once again welcoming pudus from Chile. This species is the second smallest cervid in the world behind the northern pudu located in Peru and Colombia. Today, according to the IUCN (International Union for the Conservation of Nature), it is almost threatened. Poaching, modification of its territory (deforestation) and predation by domestic dogs are the main threats it faces.
Located at Ardes-sur-Couze in Puy-de-Dôme, the Park is only 45 minutes from Clermont-Ferrand and Besse / Saint-Nectaire / Murol, and 15 minutes from exits 15 and 17 of the A75 near Issoire. The Auvergne Animal Park was elected Favorite Zoo of the French in 2017 (less than 100,000 visitors), and also obtained the Quality Tourism label. The atypical side of the Park has been highlighted by many television channels: TF1, France 3, France 5, C8, TLM, TL7.
