The Sarret de Grozon museum is located at Arbois, in the Jura department. It is thus named in homage to the family who owned this 17th century mansion in the center of the town and altered in the 19th century and who bequeathed it to the town in 1902. The furniture and the collections it contained (porcelain, exceptional silverware, paintings from the 17th to the 19th century, including works by the Comtois painters Courbet and Pointelin) were included in the donation.
The museum was opened to the public in 1934. The establishment is now labeled "Musée de France".
In an exceptional heritage setting, works reflecting the great taste confidence of a family of the provincial aristocracy are presented. Note that most of the rooms in the building have retained their original decor.
In addition, the museum collection has been enriched with portraits drawn in pastel by Louis Pasteur, another local celebrity, during his youth.
Temporary exhibitions are also organized.
