Anse

Tourism, holidays & weekends guide in the Rhône

Bordered by the Saône and the Azergues, Anse draws its households in the middle of a vast verdant plain. At the gates of Beaujolais, the charming town stretches gently between vegetation and urbanism. Objects from the Bronze Age were discovered on the site. It is therefore a place that has been occupied for a long time, probably because of its proximity to the rivers and the flatness of the territory. The Romans were not mistaken also, and settled there in their turn. A castrum is erected and it will have to face several invasions from the third century. The nearby water also favored the installation of sailors whose objects were found on site. Anse was not spared by the war and was destroyed in 1944 to be rebuilt after the Liberation and adopt the face that is known to him today.

Things to see and do

The visit of Anse begins with old stones that give cachet and authenticity to the city. And it is the chapel Saint-Cyprien that opens the ball. This building, dating from the 5th or 6th century, is a primitive church built inside the ancient ramparts. However, history is not very prolix about it and historians are lost in conjectures and can only cling to the local legends to support his experience. Today, it hosts art exhibitions and hosts cultural events.

As you walk through the old Anse, you will cross the road of the castle of the Towers dating from the thirteenth century. There is an archaeological museum, but also exhibitions of paintings and mosaics or objects found in the area. Continuing the walk, you can admire the castle of Messimieux today transformed into retirement home, the location of the banal oven where once the villagers came there to bake their bread in exchange for a tax, the Place de la Panneterie and houses of the 15th and 16th centuries. The Roman ramparts of the third century and some of the fifteen towers of that time are still visible today.

To move to Anse, everything has been planned. From the skate park to the traditional park of the Roseraie Julien-Renoard, you will find to do. The latter has dedicated a space to a beautiful rose garden and the other to a playground for young children. A municipal swimming pool also welcomes you for a good moment of relaxation.

Events and festivities

On the last Sunday of February, the Conscripts are out. This event, with reference to two young people who came to present themselves in black coats on the day of their draw, comes out of the beaten track. On this day you will be able to watch the parade through the streets of Anse, men of all ages, wearing black tuxedo and wearing a ribbon of different colors depending on their age. This unusual holiday is an unmissable event in the city.

Every Friday morning from 9am to 12pm, the market stands in avenue de Brianne. It is in a friendly and warm atmosphere that you can make your market.
