Religious building located in Haute-Savoie, in the municipality of Annecy, the basilica of the Visitation stands proudly on the crest of the Maure, the first buttress of the Semnoz massif. Built in the early twentieth century on the plans of Alfred-Henri Recoura, winner of the Prix de Rome, it was dedicated in the late 1940s.
In neo-Romanesque style, it reveals a steeple over seventy meters high surmounted by a seven-meter bronze cross. It houses in its interior the bodies of Francis de Sales and Jeanne de Chantal, the founders of the monastery of the Order of the Visitation located next door.
The latter now houses the Salesian Museum which perpetuates the values of the Order of the Visitation and of Joan of Chantal, and traces the life and work of Francis de Sales. A memorial in memory of the latter has also been developed.
