Its famous pier, which stretches over 230 metres, is one of the longest in France and offers a superb view of the unique landscape of Arcachon Bay from the end. Its beautiful sandy beaches, sailing club, casino, shops, restaurants, and its oyster farm, which has a small oyster museum and offers fresh oyster tastings, are sure to delight you!

As you walk along the seafront, do not miss the ruins of the 4th-century Gallo-Roman villa, a listed Historic Monument at the foot of St. Eloi Church...

Seaside resort of Arcachon, in Gironde, Andernos-les-Bains is a must in the region because of the many attractions it offers. Old prehistoric site, the city still has remains of the Gallo-Roman era, in addition to a beautiful sandy beach overlooking the Bay of Arcachon.

Always close to its traditions, the city of Andernos-les-Bains still has a strong link with oyster farming, the industry that has made famous the Arcachon basin, and it is possible to delight the taste buds by tasting some specimens of these delicious oysters.

Between old seaside villas of the nineteenth century, the splendor of the Saint-Eloi church, or the many sports practicable on its beach, Andernos-les-Bains is definitely an ideal place for families or lovers.

Things to see and do

There are plenty of places to discover in Andernos-les-Bains, and it is possible to admire many architectural wonders as you stroll through the alleys of the seaside resort.

The church of Saint-Éloi, of the XIth century, is one of the jewels of Andernos-les-Bains. It is charming by its magnificent friezes, its capitals, or even its murals, as well as by its ideal position at the edge of the Arcachon basin. The church of Saint-Éloi is also a relay of the famous pilgrimage of Santiago de Compostela. It is also possible to admire the remains of a Gallo-Roman villa dating from the 4th century, classified Historic Monument.

Walking along the seaside or in the city center, we discover villas with typical Arcachonese architecture, like the villa Ignota built between the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century.

Very beautiful building, the house Louis David, a former mayor of Andernos-les-Bains, today hosts a cultural center, as well as the city museum. Inside, we find some of the remains found on the Gallo-Roman ruins, as well as the municipal archives or ancient manuscripts. In the park around, it is possible to collect on the tomb of Louis David, whose sculpture was made by Raymond Delamarre.

The natural site of Quinconces is one of the last preserved natural areas of Andernos-les-Bains and its surroundings. A frequented walker's place, he was trampled by the great actress Sarah Bernhardt who stayed several times in the seaside resort.

From the pier, the longest in the basin, you can admire the fishermen's huts, as well as the entrance to the Arcachon basin.

A casino offers many entertainment in Andernos-les-Bains, with slot machines, roulette tables, or even regularly scheduled shows.

The central beach is the theater of numerous activities of leisure or nautical, like the sailing, the bathing or lazing around.

Events and festivities

Cultural or sporting events abound at Andernos-les-Bains, a seaside resort that knows how to move its residents and attract visitors.

In July, place Andernos Jazz Festival. Major cultural event of the resort, it offers a program based international performers and concert-aperitif, shows in the streets, or afters. July is also the scene of the famous festival of the oyster including the convening of a brotherhood of oysters, tastings and other musical entertainment.

Each year in early December, the city organizes the famous festival Cabanes en Fête. It takes place on the oyster port of Andernos-les-Bains, and on this occasion animations are organized and you can taste good fresh oysters.

Throughout the year, a market takes place every Tuesday and Friday morning, outdoor, while the halls are open Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday morning. In summer they are open daily. Two night markets are also organized in July and August, presenting craftsmen and gastronomy of south-west France.
