Small mountain village of the Hautes-Alpes, Ancelle takes place at about twenty kilometers from Gap, not far from Buissard, Saint-Julien-en-Champsaur and Forest-Saint-Julien. It is located south of Champsaur, a hundred kilometers from the city of Grenoble.
Located at 1250 meters above sea level and surrounded by many peaks, the municipality of Ancelle has long been isolated due to its geographical location. A first religious community was established at the end of the eighth century, depending on the abbey of Novalaise. Conquered by the Count of Provence in the eleventh century, the territory is gradually opened up and continues, until today, to turn to agriculture and livestock.
Tourism and winter sports are also very important since the 1950s with the creation of a family resort still very popular today.
