Things to see and do

The city of Ambarès-et-Lagrave present its visitors an important architectural heritage testifying several times.

Listed historical monument, St. Peter's Church was built between the eleventh and twelfth centuries. She has undergone various changes, including a bedside fortification in the fourteenth century or the construction of aisles in the middle of the eighteenth century. Romanesque style, it presents in a beautiful setting inside with carved capitals and impressive stained glass windows. Nearby, the town hosts an old church Templar, Notre-Dame-de-la-Grave, built between the twelfth and sixteenth centuries.

But it is its many castles and manor houses that the city of Ambarès-et-Lagrave is renowned. Listed historic monument, Castle Peychaud dates from the seventeenth century, while the Beauséjour castle is a house rebuilt in the mid-nineteenth century. One can also discover the castle Bellevue, Saint-Denis Castle, former home of the son of Louis Jouvet, the Durandeau castle, the Chateau du Gua, or the castle of Tillac. All these bourgeois mansions testify to the richness of the city in previous centuries.

Built in a late Gothic style, the Saint-Denis chapel took place on the ruins of an old church in the late nineteenth century.

Events and festivities

The Ambarès-et-Lagrave market is held every Friday morning. In May, the city also offers its artisanal and gourmet market with exhibitors in all areas.

January is the theater of the young audience Thumb Dance festival with various performances.

Every year in June, for its local festival, the city of Ambarès-et-Lagrave hosts a funfair.
