The castle of Losmonerie is located on the town of Aixe-sur-Vienne, in limit of Verneuil-sur-Vienne, in the west of the agglomeration of Limoges.
The oldest part of the building erected by a dignitary in the service of the king, Jean Chantais, dates from the sixteenth century. It is a main building at the level of the house, with an off-stair stair tower and a flamboyant Gothic door. A wing was added in the 17th century. A two-storey gallery with Renaissance decor connects the wings of the castle. This one was again reworked in the 18th and 19th centuries. Meanwhile, several owners have successively embellished the site, such Jean de Lubersac and Texandier de Losmonerie, originally from Limoges. Inside the castle, painted decorations of the eighteenth century, tapestries and furniture testify to these contributions.
Partly classified since 2009 (the house, the pavilions and the gate closing the courtyard), still private property, the castle is the subject of restoration work, including at the outdoor level (park).
Some rooms can be rented for events. The castle is also open for visits in August (price: 6 euros) and during the Heritage Days in September. Information on +33 6 07 11 04 96.
