City gate of Périgord-Limousin Regional Natural Park, the Aixe-sur-Vienne town is located in the department of Haute-Vienne. Member of the urban area of ​​Limoges, it is twenty kilometers from Saint-Junien.

The town of Aixe-sur-Vienne take its name from a Latin character, Axius, and the river that runs through the Vienne. Things to see and do

Aixe-sur-Vienne is the venue of a large number of tourist monuments that attract many visitors each year.

Built in the nineteenth century, the chapel of Our Lady Arliquet is the scene of an important pilgrimage. Neo-Gothic brick and limestone, it welcomes in its midst a beautiful Pietà sixteenth century venerated every seven years at the time of Ostensions. Tower Jeanne d'Albret, listed historical monument, is the remains of the castle of the town. Located on a rocky outcrop, it dominates the confluence of the Aixette and Vienna.

Private property, the castle dates from the sixteenth century Losmonerie and was listed as an historic monument. You can still see some parts dating back to the fifteenth century.

In the town of Aixe-sur-Vienne, visitors can admire a medieval garden on the banks of Vienna, or the bridge Malassert. The latter, of the fourteenth century, is the only remnant of an old wooden bridge.

The city is crossed by paths of famous hiking, as the GR4 linking Royan in Grasse, or the GR 654, the road to Saint-Jacques through Vézelay.
