Located four kilometers from the tourist town of Poissy, Achères is located in the heart of Yvelines, in the Île-de-France region. It is located on the edge of the Val-d'Oise, on the banks of the Seine, not far from the town of Saint-Germain-en-Laye.
Inhabited since the Neolithic, the commune of Achères develops in the Middle Ages. The one that saw the birth of Saint Louis soon became royal residence in the seventeenth century, before seeing settlement in the nineteenth century spreading fields of sewage in the city of Paris. Achères is also known today to accommodate the largest sewage treatment plant in Europe, and the second in the world behind Chicago. This particular economic activity does not prevent the commune of Yvelines from presenting a charming architectural heritage, typical of this part of the Île-de-France.
