Camping Val d'Aleth

This is one of a very few sites open all year near Carcassonne - Despite arriving in low season we were made very welcome. The amenities were very clean and the mediaeval town is awesome - Be aware that before April a lot of places are closed including the restaurants in Alet-les-Bains and the shop doesn't stock very much.

Small site with access to the river for swimming. No 'beach', so not suitable for small children to swim in. Efficient, friendly staff. Toilet, shower and wash facilities were excellent and very clean. Some of the pitches were a little small, but the atmosphere was lovely. We would happily have stayed longer than our 3 nights if possible and would return. The pizzas were good, as was the wine sold on site. The small local shop had everything you need, but is not open on a Monday (and probably not Sunday, but I didn't check.) In the village is an amazing 25 (+?) meter swimming pool. My children are swimming addicts and we wanted to bring this pool home with us. Great canoing and kayaking place in the village too. Alet-les-Bains is wonderful to stroll round. Medieval building…awesome.

Please note if you are going to cycle whilst at this site it is not easy to actually get to a road suitable for cycling on. There is a walking track at the back of the village, passed the water source facility. It is 3.5k to the road to start cycling. Some of the track can be cycled on but it is not easy going.

Returned to our favourite site again and were not let down. As always we were welcomed kindly, our strange queries (eg which is the lovely abbey with the herb garden) were always fully answered due to fantastic local knowledge. A lovely quiet site for those looking for a gentle holiday, lovely airy and clean sanitation block with hot water available at all times, would recommend it to anyone thinking of spending time in Cathar country.

Delightful camp site. Lovely welcome from owners, some pitches bit small, we had no 7, a biigger one on side of river, nice and shady, smashing village, small shop, swimming pool in villagecouple bars and places to eat, train to carcassone only 2 € return, very quite, going again this yr.
