Domaine d'Alteville - Tarquimpol

Alteville with its Castles of XVI and xviii centuries, situated between trees, lakes, and herds of cattle, invites you for a pleasant stay. Situated in the heart of the regional Natural Reserve of Lorraine, on the borders of the “Lindre” (a huge lake well-known as one of the privileged places in Europe for wildlife, especially birds), Alteville is surrounded by a magnificent and restful landscape. It has inspired famous writers and once it sheltered glorious generals of the Empire. Since more than a century the property belongs to a farming family. Today the house is run by Agnieszka and David Barthelemy. Combining modern amenities with old-world charm, the Château has become a stylish place with a lovely terrace towards the park and reception rooms furnished with antiques. Enjoy the Louis XVI lounge with its magnificent paintings, the library and billiard room. The guest rooms are comfortable and equipped with en-suite facilities. The décor is elegant and traditional. The reception is private and warm. On your evening of arrival, don't miss to book the guest table – a privileged and authentic moment, in the big “wedding” dining-room. Dishes are mainly made of products from the organic farm; fishes come from the lake, and game from the forest. The domain's vegetable garden adds plants and herbs to the menu. In the morning, start the day with a tasty continental breakfast. Have a look at the weather map with free Internet access. Then, explore landscape and towns in the vicinity. The historic towns of Nancy, Metz and Strasbourg are only a short drive away. David will advise you how best to fulfill your individual wishes; with trips and visits by car, on foot, bicycle (which can be provided), and even by boat! Situated in such a quiet countryside, the Château d'Alteville is a haven of peace and conviviality. Just the right place to relax. You are welcome to come and explore.

Perfect one-day stay: simply marvellous!
David is a very friendly, open-minded and courteous person, and although we arrived quite late, we were cordially received. Immediately after our arrival we were introduced to the other guest (3 French and 1 German couple), who were enjoying ther aperitif in the salon next to the fireplace. After a short guidance through the château (salon, library, breakfast/dining room, exit to the gigantic and beautiful parc) we were led to our room, where you feel taken back to another century. Very comfortable bed, although it was not long enough for me (1,9 m), but it is known that french beds are not that big. David also recommended us a local restaurant nearby and made the reservation for us - great! Coming back from dinner all guests again were sitting in the salon, having a cup of coffee, mirabelle plum 'Schnaps' or a glas of whine. Again, David managed to create a warm atmosphere, so that everybody was involved in the conversation. He also acts as a translator, because our French is not that good and we talked in English, so David translated everything to French for the other guests. The next day we had a rich breakfast, again sitting together with all other guest around one big table - great! We can only highly recommend this lovely château and like to thank David for a perfect stay!!! We will definitively come back.

Elegant and wonderful!
The Chateau is lovely and the grounds are quite picturesque. The room was clean and the bed was very comfortable with nice linens. Host David provided a very warm welcome and took extra time to share the history of the property and to help us find our next B&B (didn't realize we were up against a holiday!) The breakfast was delicious and filling, especially after David offered us an egg each morning (knew we Americans would appreciate that!) The only problem was that we were on a tight schedule each day and could not join the evening welcome time or enjoy a meal with David. We hope to return one day and just relax at this lovely place. I highly recommend this B&B!
