Alessandro and Camilla, two Italians in love with France, invite you to come and relax at la Clairière, a stone house dating from 1781 among the hills of southwestern Cantal, between Auvergne Volcans and the Lot Valley, less than 2 km from the town of Marcolès, a small medieval jewel labelled "Petite cité de Charactère" If you want to visit the area, Marcoles is the ideal starting point, with the chance to make beautiful car or moto rides in the countryside around and visit exceptional sites like Conques, Unesco Heritage35 km) Figeac45 km) and Salers. But La Clairière is also the ideal place for those who want to devote themselves to 'dolce far niente', read a book, sleep or "listen to silence" in front of a view on the hills as far as the eye can see. The part of the house dedicated to our guests, is oriented to the west and overlooks a terrace,, no vis-a-vis, facing a park of 5000 m². We have two classic double rooms one of wich can become a suite - Chambre du Peintre and Chambre du Jardinier - and tow unusual accommodations, the Eriba, a small caravan of the '80s immersed in our garden and the Sécadou, an 18th century chestnut dryer. The Chambre du Jardinier16 sqm) is on the 1st floor. It becomes Suite de l0Ecrivain Jardinier and can accommodate 3 to 5/6 if a large extra room with seating area is added on the same floorla Chambre de l'Ecrivain). The Chambre du Peintre20 sqm) is on the ground floor. For more details please visit the french version of our website alaclairiere. Com to the "our rooms. We also propose dinnerTable d'hôtes) with a menu at 20 or 30 € including wine. It is also possible to consume it in the privacy of the room. Everything you could want and more for a great family holiday
Both the house and the welcome exceeded the high expectations we had after seeing it on the internet. Camilla and Allesandro were so helpful before we arrived and during our stay. They were so kind and accommodating with our children and went out of their way to make them feel included and welcome. The food was excellent particularly their own produce, and it was really nice to have dinner with them and the other guests in such a wonderful location.

Hospitality and friendliness bar none
This refined and totally exquisite B&B only requires one visit and you will be raving about it. The circumstances by which I came to stay were unusual but I was (am) undertaking a cycling tour of France/Spain/Portugal and due to economic reasons am generally camping. However, I have provision for staying in a B&B where the weather requires so, when in Marcoles in inclement and very cold conditions decided to permit myself a treat. I was not aware to what extent I was going to be indulged when I searched and found their Website (ironically using the local hotels WiFi). On contacting Camilla, from the outset I gleaned this was not going to be anything but delightful. Firstly, she immediately suggested to come to town and provide directions (not at all necessary as its actually very straightforward, but to my advantage she insisted on taking my panniers to make my journey easier. On arrival, Alessandro greeted me with a coffee and small snack (he lives for cooking) and welcomed me into their amazing kitchen/dining room. Their children are totally adorable, courteous and funny and a credit to their parenting (I'm a Social Worker and therefore consider myself qualified to make this assessment)... I was shown my room which had an amazing view (through the rain) across their gardens and to the hills beyond. I then rested, made full use of their WiFi and a few hours later prepared myself for Dinner. Amazing. In the UK you would pay £50 per head for a meal of this quality. Nothing was spared in terms of presentation, flavouring and ingredients. Thank you. Following Dinner we chatted for a considerable amount of time... They are simply the most well educated, refined and easy going of people to spend time with. After a great nights sleep (memory foam pillows... On my list of items to buy) I was provided with a great Cappuccino (I spent last Spring in Sicily and no a great Cappuccino when I get one), bread with home produced honey (floral and delicate) and eggs and Parma ham. Delicious. After that, Alessandro insisted that I try his home made Tiramisu (oh my Sweet Lord it was good)... And I spent time in front fo the wood burning stove chatting and being soundly thrashed at UNO (a card game i used to play with my own children) by the kids... As the morning was bright I spent time in the garden and prepared myself for my onward journey. There is nothing further to say about this B&B apart from if you want perfect home comforts with highly cultured and hospitable people then this is totally what you need. I will go back on my return journey... Make no doubt whatsoever about that.

Home from home and more
As soon as we arrived we were all made to feel really welcome. The accommodation was very comfortable with beautiful views of the surrounding countryside. Camilla and Alessandro were brilliant hosts and were helpful in recommending places to visit. Thank you for a wonderful stay, we only wish it could have been longer!

Our address is La Veissière, at 1700 meters from the village of Marcoles. Until a few months ago, some gps, including Laurence and Gérôme's one who wrote on their comment that they have struggled to find us : -) indicated as parcourible by car a road which is pedestrian only. Therefore those who followed the gps without taking into consideration our information might have problems. Anymore. The mistake was reported to Google Maps and the problem is solved. Just type destination : Marcoles, address : La Veissièreor Laveissière). For those who follow maps and signs, once in Marcoles before the Auberge de la Tour, - Take the D64 towards Boisset - Les rochers de Faulat. - After about 1 km, turn right twice toward Laveissiere. - 300 meters on the left after a small farm with a barn, you will see our house and you can park next to our car. If you enter a wood by a steep hill, it means you've gone too far.
