Guided tour of a truffle wood in Périgord

We were the only English speakers in the group, so the host made a point of asking a couple of the bilingual guests to translate for us. They seemed happy to do this and we learned a lot. He also speaks some English and explained some parts separately to us. The host is a happy, gregarious man who obviously loves what he does, and his enthusiasm is infectious. It was a happy, boisterous group and we felt very welcome and comfortable. The food was simple but well prepared and tasty. After lunch we took a nice walk on the property and the dog pointed out the truffles and guests took turns digging them up. This was one of our best experiences during our visit to France. We highly recommend it.

The tour was fun and highly educational. Everyone in the family enjoyed it and we were very fond of their dog.

We loved this visit, the proprietor is a true expert and loves to share his knowledge of the truffle. As well as a very interesting classroom style lesson we went out to look at a plantation and then to the actual hunt. The dogs never failed, each time they were asked to search they found a truffle, it still needed digging up and that is where the class came in handy, there were no shortage of volunteers. The visit contains a lot of humour as well as a lot of knowledge. The price of the visit was fair but we found the tasting plate a bit expensive for what it was. Overall I would definitely recommend it, I came away with a new respect for the truffle.

A very interesting visit.

It was incredible!!! The tour, the information, the food…were perfect. We have traveled all over the world and this was by far one of the most interesting and informative tours. My husband speaks French but I do not, and yet I was able to understand and even have an in-depth conversation about farm life.
