Amazing snowshoeing and hiking experiences
Gareth is a very experienced mountain guide who took us on three different snowshoeing hikes in Gavarnie, Cauterets beyond lake Gaube and Hautacam in the Pyrenees. Since these majestic mountains are so prone to avalanches, exploring them with an experienced, certified mountain guide like Gareth is highly recommended to ensure you get off the beaten track and stay safe at the same time. Gareth was impressively thorough from the outset, when he emailed us detailed answers to all of our questions and ensured to tailor an experience based on our interests, abilities and preferences. He provided all the snowshoeing equipment (including the poles) and advised us in advance about things to bring / wear to be comfortable. On the mountain he adjusted to the pace and the needs of the group and got all of us engaged in spotting wildlife, examining rock formations and exploring interesting plants. He is a wonderful story teller and he shared with us local lore as well as scientific facts and curiosities which helped us learn a lot about the place. One day we walked with him for 8 hours, but we hardly felt it, we had so much fun! Not to mention that he knows solitary paths in absolutely breathtaking locations which make for outstanding photos and videos. Gareth's rates are reasonable and transparent, and he is punctual, thorough, helpful, well equipped, well prepared, very pleasant - reasons for which we were delighted with the hikes he organized with us and we highly recommend his services, be they snowshoeing or hiking, in the Pyrenees or elsewhere. Thank you, Gareth, for three unforgettable trips!

Snowshoe walk - vallon d'Aygues Cluse
We booked Gareth for a family snowshoe walk in the region and it was a great first time experience we all appreciated (though really hard on my knees for the descent!). Gareth is very patient, explains many things along the route, knows the region very well and you feel totally safe in its hands. Itinerary chosen was a bit hard on me, Gareth could not guess in advance, but we all made it till the end and my sons and husband fully enjoyed it, they are ready to go again!

Snowshoeing in Gavarnie
We had planned to visit Argeles-Gazost and snowshoe around this beautiful village, in the forest and above the tree line. Unfortunately, it turned out to be one of the worst years in recent history for snowfall. However, thanks to Gareth's expansive local knowledge, he took us to Gavarnie where we found a good amount of snow, beautiful vistas and some interesting facts about what we were seeing. Gareth is really a relaxed guide a full of knowledge. We snowshoed up a peak, walked to the border with Spain, crossed a frozen lake and made our way back via a small canyon. What a great way to learn how to snowshoe. Highly recommend and would seek out Gareth again if back in the area. Thanks again and happy new year!

Personalized and knowledgeable
Gareth tailored the day to accommodate both my location (outside his usual area) and the uncooperating weather (it hadn't snowed for weeks). He was energetic, knowledgeable and fun. We hiked a fairly long way to find snow at higher altitude but the pace was reasonable and the scenery interesting. Gareth made a real effort so that I could give snowshoweing a try. It was my first time and I was really happy to have hired a guide who would create such a positive experience. Highly recommended.
