We spent 4 nights in Le Manoir in Souillac in April and wished we could have stayed longer (and the weather was lovely, sunny, not too hot making all excursions we made delicious!) But apart from the weather conditions which we humans cannot change- yet-, Le Manoir in Souillac is the best place to discover this wonderful region in Dordogne, France. The location of the beautifully house - built in local material - is private which adds to being truly able to enjoy a relax stay. The house has been renovated by the hosts Marion and Jan with incredible taste and luxury giving it a unique character. Marion and Jan clearly but rightfully take great pride in their little piece of heaven in this quiet and remote area of France. It is surrounded by a large private garden with a pool and bushes and trees around. Le Manoir has several rooms, each soberly, but beautifully and lovingly decorated--each room is different. The rooms are absolutely outstanding in their quality of finish. Our large room was cosy and disposed of a kitchenette with lovely and practical tableware. Great attention has been paid to everything from the furniture to the bed linen and towels in the bathroom all of which were of very high quality and design. The owners Marion and Jan were charming, extremely helpful recommending sights to visit in the area, fabulous cooks (hmm!) with Jan being a connoisseur of local beverages (beer and wine), and absolutely wonderful hosts. They've thought of everything to make the B&B unique and tasteful. We ate our dinners "sur place" in a large room near the pool. Every morning Jan gets up early in order to serve you freshly baked bread and croissants at breakfast. Marion prepared us some delicious cakes and pastries. We highly recommend Le Manoir to all kinds of travellers (individuals, families with children, couples) who want lovely scenery, sporting facilities of all kinds, quiet, great food, a beautiful room, and welcoming, enthusiastic hosts. The B&B is very easy to reach by car: but what people mostly don't know: you can go there by train: there is a direct wonderful direct train from Paris Austerlitz to Souillac. And if you ask Jan, he will be glad to pick you up at the station (as he kindly proposed to do with us). In the neighbourhood you can walk, cycle, run, visit nice villages like Martel, Sarlat, Rocamadour. Renting a car is no problem! And don't forget to visit the prehistoric marvels of Lascaux which are nearby! One last remark: why not give an overall excellent rate? : answer: just being afraid people wouldn't trust a 10/10 appreciation as being suspicious!
