15 Rue de l'Hopital - Nézignan-l'Évêque

Historic house with vaulted interior on two floors. Completely restored. Central heating for the winter ; in summer the stone walls maintain a pleasant coolness. Near Agde and Pézenas, on the first foothills of the Cevennes range, close to the Hérault river. Nézignan developed in the Middle Ages as a circular village called locally a circulade. Quiet streets with Renaissance buildings nestle around the site of the old Castle. Former residence of the Bishops of Agde, this delightful village is surrounded by vineyards producing quality wine, with restaurants to eat in or to take away, The region boasts a mild and sunny climate, delights tourists and has already attracted many retirees. Its residents, nicknamed the 'becos figos' reintroduced the culture of the fig tree and gathered in an exceptional arboretum, seventy two noble varieties of the tree in the middle of a Mediterranean botanical garden. The house is in the historic village center in a quiet street without traffic.

Lovely place to stay!
We arrived about 8: 00 in the evening on October 22, Chris met us at this wonderful place to stay. We fell in love with it immediately. Chris and Rina are fantastic hosts and very friendly and eager to be sure our stay was everything we expected. We felt right at home and even made friends with a local orange and white kitty who wanted to make friends, but really just wanted the snacks we gave him. He was adorable looking through the window at us. L'Olivier is located within easy driving distance to so many really cool places to drive off to then come back to our "own place" to rest and enjoy a meal. Since I caught a cold the first few days, it was an easy place to rest and relax - something my husband and I don't usually do as well as we should even on vaction. It is just amazing to me that we could actually stay in a place dating back to the 15 century and enjoy being there. Thanks Chris and Rina for such a wonderful experience.

3 weeks of happiness
A very handy location for many activities. Enough local facilities on hand and everything else in nearby town. The house was cleverly restored with everything in immaculate repair. Warmly welcomed and made sure that we had all that we would need. Faultless.

Our well-remembered stay in a lovely house of character in a picture-perfect village
We spent four great weeks in L'Olivier last Fall, enjoyed every minute and would happily repeat the experience one of these years. If you like exploring unspoiled countryside this area has a lot to offer. Hosts Chris and Rina were happy to make suggestions for day trips, they even went so far as to invite us along on one of their walking group hikes so we got to meet other villagers and ramble through acres of vines set amongst the Garrigues, something we would not have attempted on our own - It was always a pleasure to return each evening to our comfortable and warm home away from home, to relax with a glass of one of the many fine wines to be found locally and later to make dinner in the well-equipped kitchen. One of my favourite memories is of the day we spent touring through the gorges of the River Tarn. The scenery is breathtaking, It is a long day but well worth the effort, Location-wise, the village is ideal. The beach is an easy drive, the Pyrenees also. Groceries can be found in nearby Pezenas and I highly recommend the local bread store and bakery! All in all, lovely house, helpful, friendly hosts who are always willing to go the extra mile to ensure one's comfort and peaceful, idyllic countryside. What more could a person want?

Feeling the age and times of long ago staying in what we felt like a castle. Great fun and nice accommodations
Chris sent us explicit directions to the 16th Century house. We loved the sounds of the town coming through open windows, the beautiful sunny and warm days, and the lovely people of France. The house has a lot of history that you find in the richly endowed books and pamphlets in the house. We found it easy to go from town to town in our rental car. Chris and Rina were wonderful hosts and we hope to see them again.
