At the top of the village of Vézelay is the saint-Madeleine basilica from the 12th and 13th centuries, an important stopping point on the Way of St James (Santiago de Compostela pilgrim route). This masterpiece of Romanesque architecture is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The main street is mainly composed of religious shops and restaurants.
