World capital of Peace, the city of Verdun is marked by an important historical past. The underground citadel of the city built between 1890 and 1893 is a reminder of the painful past of the First World War and helps visitors better understand the events that took place during that period. Today Verdun is home to the World Centre for Peace, Freedom and the Human Rights.
