Situated in the Gulf of Morbihan, this City of Art and History was in the past the place of residence of the Dukes of Brittany. The medieval old town of Vannes has preserved its architectural richness, including beautiful 13th-century ramparts, picturesque old districts with colourful timber-framed houses, Saint-Pierre cathedral built between the 13th and 18th centuries, and delightful 19th-century communal washing places (lavoirs) along the ramparts.
