Known for its ancient remains, Vaison-la-Romaine also possesses a charming medieval old town, the High City. The Gallo-Roman remains are the biggest archaeological field in France and extend over the Villasse site and the Puymin site. The archaeological museum is on the Puymin site. The visit of the city continues with the Notre-Dame-de-Nazareth cathedral and its cloister, which is a beautiful example of Provencal Romanesque architecture. The fortified gate of the 14th century with its belfry tower marks the entrance of the medieval town and its beautiful residences. The castle of the Comtes de Toulouse built in the 12th century dominates the whole city.
