As its name suggests, Vaison-la-Romaine possesses an important Roman heritage. Known for its ancient remains, Vaison-la-Romaine also possesses a charming medieval old town, the Haute-Ville (upper town).

The Gallo-Roman remains form the largest archaeological site in France and cover the Villasse and Puymin sites. The archaeological museum is on the Puymin site.

The visit of the city continues with the Notre-Dame-de-Nazareth cathedral and its cloister, which is a beautiful example of Provencal Romanesque architecture.

The 14th-century fortified gate with its belfry tower marks the entrance to the medieval town and its beautiful houses. The castle of the Comtes de Toulouse built in the 12th century dominates the whole city.
