City of Art, Troyes has preserved its magnificent historic centre. The heart of the city in the shape of a champagne cork holds much for walkers to see: timber-framed houses, a typically troyenne architecture, its narrow streets like the famous "ruelle des Chats" (very narrow path), its mansions, and its ten listed churches. The numerous sculptures and the old windows of the various religious buildings are examples of work by the talented master glassmakers and sculptors of important artistic movement the Troyes School. The Saint-Pierre-et-Saint-Paul Gothic cathedral is a magnificent example: 1,500 m² of wonderful windows dating from the 13th to the 19th century are a sight to behold!
The city also offers a vast choice of museums, such as the Tool and Labor Thought house containing an exceptional collection of old shaping tools, the Vauluisant mansion home to the Troyes and Champagne Historic museum as well as the Hosiery museum, a major tradition in Troyes; The Saint-Loup museum dedicated to Fine art, Archaeology and Natural History, and the Modern Art museum in a former episcopal palace.
Renowned for its textile tradition dating back to the Middle Ages, Troyes is the capital of factory shops today. Shopping fans and bargain hunters will be in heaven.
