Toulon and its port can be discovered in a magnificent natural harbor, one of the most beautiful in Europe. Lining Darse Vieille, the Cronstadt quay is a place very frequented by walkers and with many shops and cafés. The old town is very picturesque and offers visitors its numerous fountains, among which the famous Trois-Dauphins fountain situated in the middle of the charming Puget place; its typical and lively alleyways, and its colourful Provencal market situated on the Cours Lafayette. A stay in Toulon will also be the occasion to sample the famous bourride, a local soupe made of aïoli and white fishes. The Marine national museum, with its entrance made of the ancient Arsenal gateway, is dedicated to the history of the navy. Dominating the city, the mount Faron, a limestone massif reaching 584 metres at its highest point, offers a magnificent panorama of the natural harbor and the Saint-Mandrier peninsula. A cable railway takes you to its top. |
