Nestling at the heart of the Bourbonnais countryside in the commune of Saint-Pourçain-sur-Besbre, Thoury Castle built in the 12th, 15th and 16th centuries, presents a harmonious set of buildings right out of a fairy tale, with an imposing gatehouse, two main buildings, corner towers and high curtains. Restored in the 14th century by Louis II of Bourbon, this old stronghold in the shape of an irregular pentagon is open to the public from April to October. The inner court, the splendid 16th-century Italian-style gallery, guard's tower and small hunting museum, 11th-century vaulted cellar, and the watchtower with its family memorabilia can all be seen on a guided tour.
