The town of Sens is home to the first big Gothic cathedrals in France, the Saint-Etienne cathedral. It was built from 1130 to 1163. All stained glass windows are magnificent. The treasure of the cathedral contains famous pieces, such as tapestries, works of silversmith's trade, ancient tissues, ivories and enamels. Near the cathedral, pretty halls of the 19th century are home to a market. The old town has old houses, notably of the 16th century. A lively pedestrian street is lined with shops. |
