The town of Sens is home to the first of France's big Gothic cathedrals, the Saint-Etienne cathedral. It was built from 1130 to 1163. All its stained glass windows are magnificent. The treasure house of the cathedral contains famous pieces, such as tapestries, antique silverware and fabrics, ivories and enamels.
Near the cathedral stands a pretty 19th-century covered market. The old town possesses period houses dating from the 16th century. A lively pedestrian street is lined with shops.
