Nestling in the heart of the angevin vineyards, the medieval town of Saumur, nicknamed the pearl of Anjou, immediately appeals to the visitors with its magnificent castle watching from the top of its turrets on the prestigious Loire valley, and its historic district spreading along the wild river. Surrounded by fortifications, the castle of the dukes of Anjou is home to a Decorative arts museum and a Horse museum. Visitors can also take advantage of a magnificent panorama embracing the roofs of the city and the Loire river.

Below, the historic centre of Saumur is the perfect place for a stroll with its narrow streets bordered by old residences and its Saint-Pierre square, where can be found old timber-framed houses and the church sheltering stalls and tapestries.

Worth being seen as well: the Notre-Dame-de-Nantilly Romanesque church, which contains a magnificent tapestries collection of the 16th and 17th centuries.
