Situated at the mouth of the Loire river, the city of Saint-Nazaire is famous for its harbour facilities and its shipyards. The Escal'Atlantic International Passenger ships Centre, situated in the former submarine base, the man and environment museum tracing history of Saint-Nazaire, the Swordfish submarine open to visitors, and the Chantiers de l'Atlantique, a site specialized in the construction of passenger cruise ships, are some of the sites of the port to be seen or visited. The terrace on the submarine base roof offers a general view of the port and its installations.
