In a stunning location high above the Loire gorges and especially the water reservoir of the Villerest dam, the picturesque hilltop village of Saint-Maurice-sur-Loire is dominated by the silhouette of its 12th-century keep, remains of a feudal castle that used to stand there. At the top of this old tower, there is a wonderful panoramic view of the surrounding countryside, especially of the Loire gorges. Also of interest on a trip to the village are, among other things, the charming narrow streets lined with pretty houses, La Mure-Chantois Renaissance manor house with its elegant staircase tower and a church containing 13th-century frescoes...

Below the village, the Villerest lake offers the possibility to practice numerous sports activities such as sailing, canoeing, windsurfing and fishing.
