Surrounded by ramparts, the fortified city of Saint-Malo was admirably rebuilt to identical after enduring an 80% destruction in August 1944. The malouine town forms a magnificent set, with its ramparts, its castle and its beautiful buildings. Unmissable, the ramparts walk offers magnificent sights of the sea, the sandy beaches down below, the National fort (work of Vauban), the port and the buildings of the inside city. To acquaint with the history of Saint-Malo, one can head towards the big keep of the castle, which is home to the Malouin City and Countryside History museum. Visitors can also go to the Big Aquarium of Saint-Malo, a place entirely devoted to the maritime world. Every four years, the malouine town hosts the departure of the Route du Rhum, the famous transatlantic single-handed yacht race connecting Saint-Malo to Pointe-à-Pitre in Guadeloupe.
