Situated in Basse-Navarre and 8 kilometres from the Spanish border, Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port is a good stopping point on the Way of St James (Santiago de Compostela pilgrim route). This charming medieval town is surrounded by several pink sandstone walls. Its paved and narrow streets, lined with old houses are picturesque. Furthermore, a beautiful citadel dominates the town. There is numerous tourist and craft shops.
