Overlooking the confluence of the Vayres and Graine rivers from the top of its promontory, the Rochechouart castle combines medieval style (with its keep and its drawbridge) and Renaissance style (with its main building and its inner courtyard), and is home to the departmental museum of contemporary art. Visitors cross a drawbridge to reach the main courtyard which is bordered with a magnificent 15th-century arcaded gallery.
