The charming village of Rieux-Volvestre, nestling at the edge of a small river named Arize, possesses a fortified brick-built cathedral of Gothic style. Boasting an octagonal bell tower, the cathedral contains magnificent stalls and an episcopal treasure, with notably a silver bust reliquary. In the streets of the medieval town, hall and old timber-framed houses reveal their charm.

An event not to miss: the Papogay festival, which takes place on the first Sunday of May. This traditional fest dates from the medieval period gather archers in order to bring down a wooden parrot perched on a mast at 45 metres high. The winner of this contest is appointed king of Rieux for the year.
