Created in the 17th century for Cardinal Richelieu, the town of Richelieu is a remarkable example of classical town planning. Not to be missed: the high street and its 28 mansions, the old covered market halls, the Art and History Museum exhibiting souvenirs of the cardinal, furniture and tapestries, the monumental gates, ramparts and moats, plus the pleasant wooded park featuring a beautiful rose garden.
Every other year, the Cape and Sword festival brings the streets of the Cardinal's town to life with horsemen, singers, actors and musicians in period costumes, recreating a 17th-century atmosphere.
