Key monument of the city, the Rambouillet castle, built in the 14th century, used to be the pleasure residence of king Louis XVI in the 18th century. Presidential domain since 1896, this fortified castle welcomes the Head of States invited in France. The visit of the building notably offers the splendid marble room, as well as superb oak wooden panelling and decorations of Rococo and Neo-Pompeii styles. Outside, a magnificent park featuring canals, formal and landscape gardens awaits the walkers. In the park of the castle, you can also visit the National Sheepfold, the Dairy of the Queen and the Shells thatched cottage. Not to be missed either: the Rambolitrain museum, a place devoted to the universe of the toy train, which exhibits no less than 40,00 collection pieces!
