Main city of the Haute-Loire, Le Puy-en-Velay has many attractions. The visit of the Notre-Dame-de-France cathedral built in the 11th century should not be missed, as well as its cloister. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the cathedral is of Auvergne Romanesque style with with Eastern and Spanish-Moorish influences. This site is also an important stopping point on the Way of St James (Santiago de Compostela pilgrim route).
The old town has preserved its old pretty houses, especially in the Chamarlenc and Pannessac streets.
The Crozatier museum is a really encyclopaedic museum dedicated to archaeology, objets d'art, science and technology, ethnography and natural sciences.
Corneille Rock, on which a monumental statue of Notre-Dame de France stands, towers 130 metres over the town! From there, the view of Le Puy-en-Velay and its surrounding area is magnificent.
