Nestling at the heart of the verdant Nièvre Valley, the small floral town of Prémery has an elegant castle at its centre, made up of a 14th-century fortified porch and a 16th-century main building, which was the summer residence of the Bishops of Nevers until the 17th century. After taking a tour of the edifice, discover the old collegiate Church of Saint-Marcel, dating from the 13th and 14th centuries. Within its walls lies the tomb of Canon Appeleine as well as a 15th-century Pietà, and, near the church, the façade of an old timber-framed house with corbels.
Before leaving Prémery, be sure to take a walk along the pleasant lake, and then visit the superb Old Stoneware Museum, with displays of traditional stoneware items from Puisaye and Berry as well as remarkable pieces from the Carriès school!
