With a surface area of 1240 hectares, the famous Pouilly vineyard on the hills of the banks of the Loire, around the small town of Pouilly-sur-Loire, is famous for its white wines: AOC Pouilly-Fumé (Sauvignon grapes) and Pouilly-sur-Loire (Chasselas grapes).
Both dry and fruity, Pouilly-Fumé owes its name to its famous flint taste, and is best served chilled. It is a wonderful accompaniment to sea fish, scallops, white meats, and goat's cheeses such as Crottin de Chavignol.
Each year, the Pouilly vineyard is celebrated during the wine fair, which takes place on 15 August on the quays of Pouilly-sur-Loire.
