Extending over the three départements of the Vendée, the Deux-Sèvres and the Charente-Maritime, the poitevin marsh consists of two parts: the dried marsh, dedicated notably to farming and breeding, and the wet marsh, nicknamed the Green Venice (Venise Verte) because of its numerous canals and conches covered with green weed. Very romantic! Green Venice is a destination full of charm with its quite canals great for boat tours. This peaceful natural environment attract numerous wild birds. In the Vendée, the jetties of the village of Maillezais constitute an excellent departure point to discover the vendean poitevin marsh. |
